About the Award:

The goal of The Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award is to elevate the written arts in Indiana, inspiring Hoosiers’ love of reading and drawing greater attention to “home-grown” literary greats. The Award celebrates authors whose quality work has made, or has the potential to make, a lasting public impact. For additional information about the Award, please visit www.indianaauthorsaward.org

Eligibility:

  • Any living published writer who was born in Indiana or has lived in Indiana for at least five years will be eligible.
  • Authors who have published works of fiction, prose, poetry and/or non-fiction are eligible, however reference works, scholarly monographs and books of photography will not be considered.
  • At this time, self-published authors are not eligible for nomination.
  • Authors may nominate themselves or be nominated by a publisher, friend, or fan. Any individual, organization or company may nominate authors in any appropriate category. Individuals may nominate more than one author for the Award.
  • If selected as a finalist or winner, all nominated authors must be willing to participate in both the public programs and Award Dinner on Saturday, October 9, 2010 in Indianapolis, IN. Winning authors will also be encouraged to work with their designated hometown Indiana library to promote the Award and the literary arts.

Eligibility for past winners and finalists of the Award:

  • Any author who was previously named  a winner in the National Author category is no longer eligible to be named a winner or finalist in future Award years.
  • Any author who has been named a National Author finalist is eligible to win the National Author category in future Award years, as their body of work merits.
  • Any author who has been named a winner of the Regional Author category is eligible to be considered in the National Author category in future Award years, as their body of work merits, however they are not eligible to be named a Regional Author winner or finalist in future Award years.
  • Any author who has been named a finalist of the Regional Author category is eligible to be named a Regional Author winner, National Author finalist or National Author winner in future Award years, as their body of work merits.
  • Any author who has been named a winner of the Emerging Author category is not eligible to be named a winner in that category in future Award years, however they can be named as a finalist or winner in the Regional or National Author categories in future Award years, as their body of work merits.
  • Any author who has been named a finalist of the Emerging Author category is eligible to be named a winner of this category in future Award years, as their body of work merits.
  • For authors to be considered in the Emerging Author category, they must have published their first title within the last 10 years.

Award Categories:

  • National Author: A writer with Indiana ties, but whose work is known and read throughout the country. National authors will be evaluated on their entire body of work.
  • Regional Author: A writer who is well known and respected throughout the State of Indiana. Regional authors will be evaluated on their entire body of work.
  • Emerging Author: A writer with only one published book. Emerging authors will be evaluated on their single published work.

Award Prizes:

  • National Author: $10,000 cash prize and $2,500 grant for their hometown Indiana public library.
  • Regional Author: $7,500 cash prize and $2,500 grant for their hometown Indiana public library.
  • Emerging Author: $5,000 cash prize and $2,500 grant for their hometown Indiana public library.

Deadlines:

  • Nominations must be received by Friday, March 26, 2010.
  • The National Author winner will be announced by July 7, 2010. Finalists for the Regional Author Award and Emerging Author Award will be notified by July 7, 2010.
  • The winners of the Regional Author Award and Emerging Author Award will be announce at the Award Dinner on October 9, 2010. The National Author winner will be recognized at this event as well. The National Author Winner and Regional and Emerging Author Finalists must be present at the Award Dinner on October 9, 2010 to win.

About the Award Panel:

The eight-member Award Panel includes a diverse range of views, backgrounds and literary experience necessary to deliberate the merits of all nominated authors. The Award Panel will grant awards at their discretion, and the decision of the Award Panel is final.

Additional Information:

  • No nomination or entry fee is required.
  • The Award Panel has the right to change the category of a nomination.
  • At this time, we ask that authors and publishers not submit books or supplementary materials for consideration unless contacted by a representative of the Award Panel. Authors who are selected as finalists may be asked to provide up to nine copies of their works.
